Volkswagen Says New 2027 Atlas Cross Sport Will Debut Next Week

Volkswagen has released a first teaser image of the second-generation 2027 Atlas Cross Sport, confirming that the redesigned five-seater midsize crossover will make its official debut on Monday, August 10.

The image offers a glimpse at the SUV's revised rear end, showing off a prominent roof spoiler extending over the back window designed to improve aerodynamic efficiency and high-speed stability. Following the earlier premiere of the three-row 2027 Atlas, the Cross Sport maintains its distinct, two-row footprint with a sportier, more raked roofline.

Shared MQB Evo Platform and Engine Specs

Like its three-row sibling, the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport moves to an updated version of Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform. Power is expected to come from the latest fifth-generation EA888 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which generates 282 horsepower—an increase of 13 horsepower over the outgoing model. The engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive, preserving the crossover's 5,000-pound maximum towing capacity.

Inside, the second-generation Cross Sport will mirror the cabin overhauls introduced on the standard Atlas. Reconfiguring the center console by relocating the gear selector to the steering column opens up space for dual wireless smartphone charging pads. Higher trim levels are expected to feature a 15-inch central infotainment display, real wood dash decor, upgraded ambient lighting, and available front massaging seats.

Production of the 2027 Atlas Cross Sport will remain at Volkswagen’s assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with vehicles expected to reach North American dealerships later this year. Full specifications, trim levels, and official imagery will be released during the August 10 reveal.
