The 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is set to make its long-awaited return this fall.

The Crosstrek Hybrid will use Subaru’s next-generation e-Boxer series-parallel hybrid system, now paired with a larger 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller-cycle flat-four engine producing 162 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. Combined with a 118-hp electric motor delivering 188 lb-ft of torque, the system achieves a total output of 194 horsepower.

The downsized 1.1-kWh lithium-ion battery minimizes all-electric range but allows for significant efficiency improvements. Subaru projects a 20% boost in fuel economy. Power is transmitted through a CVT to Subaru’s signature symmetrical all-wheel drive system.

The new hybrid’s smaller battery pack reclaims some lost cargo space compared to the previous generation. Behind the rear seats, cargo capacity has grown to 18.6 cubic feet—just 1.3 cubic feet less than the non-hybrid models. With the rear seats folded, the hybrid matches the gas-powered version’s 54.7 cubic feet of storage space. Passenger accommodations remain identical across both versions, ensuring comfort and practicality for everyday use.

Subaru has elevated the tech in the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid, introducing a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that can display navigation or Apple Maps when using wireless Apple CarPlay. The centerpiece is an 11.6-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and wireless smartphone integration.

The standard EyeSight driver-assistance suite gains new safety features, including an emergency stop function that can automatically bring the vehicle to a halt, activate hazard lights, unlock doors, and contact emergency services if the driver becomes unresponsive.

The 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid debuts with two new exclusive colors, Sand Dune Pearl and Citron Yellow Pearl, and dark gray 18-inch alloy wheels.

Subaru has confirmed the 2026 Crosstrek Hybrid will go on sale by fall 2025. Pricing and EPA fuel economy ratings are yet to be announced, expect those closer to the release date.
