Porsche's Next Hypercar Is Going To Be Insane

Porsche just released a video that appears to preview a street-legal version of its 963 LMDh/GTP race car. The full unveiling is scheduled for June 2025, lining up with this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Key Points
- A teaser video hints at a street-legal version of the Le Mans-winning 963 endurance race car.
- Porsche hints an official unveiling will happen this June, likely coinciding with the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
- The project appears to follow the tradition of the road-legal 917K built for Count Rossi in the 1970s.
- Porsche may be developing a bespoke one-off or a small production run of road-going 963s.
The Only Street-Legal Porsche 917K: All The Details
The teaser draws a direct line to the legendary Porsche 917, the flat-12-powered monster that was once converted into a street-legal road car at the request of Italian businessman and Martini & Rossi heir, Count Gregorio Rossi di Montelera. That car, chassis 917-030, was outfitted with minimal road-going equipment—mirrors, mufflers, indicators, and even a spare tire.
The video shows that exact same 917 being driven on public roads in France, it ends with what is unmistakably the silhouette of the 963 and the provocative question: “What if?” While not an outright confirmation, it strongly suggests the brand will show off a road-going version of its endurance prototype.
This isn't without precedent either. Following the 917, there have been street-legal versions of Porsche's 956, 962, and 911 GT1 Le Mans cars built. Either Porsche is planning a one-off road-legal 963 for a private collector or preparing a limited production run of customer-ready hypercars for track use.
Most recently, the company offered the new Porsche 935, a 700 hp Clubsport race car, which was limited to just 77 units. Ferrari already has a similar program spun off from its 499P Hypercar. The 499P Modificata is part of Ferrari's Corse Clienti program. Maranello bills it the highest-performance closed-wheel car that Ferrari has ever built for non-competitive use on the track.
Of course, neither the 499P Modificata nor the Porsche 935 is road legal.
The Porsche 963 is powered by a 4.6-litre bi-turbo V8 and augmented by a spec hybrid motor for about 650 total horsepower. It won the 2024 World Endurance Championship. It's possible Porsche has decided to go down this route after a tepid response to its all-electric Mission X concept.
More details are expected to drop in the coming months, with a full reveal expected in June 2025.

Whatever happened to that Mission X concept? It looked cool... but EVs seem to have fallen out of favor all of a sudden.
