Toyota Recalling 2025 Models For Damaged Seatbelts

Toyota and Lexus are recalling 40,922 vehicles over concerns that the second-row center seat belt webbing may be compromised due to an issue during manufacturing.
The recall affects several popular models, including the 2025 Toyota Camry, as well as multiple 2024 and 2025 Lexus RX350, RX350h, and RX500h, along with the 2025 Lexus NX250, NX350, and NX350h.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue stems from a hot-knife cutting process used during seat belt production. The incorrect tooling may have caused melt marks on the seat belt webbing, weakening the material and potentially affecting its ability to perform as intended in a crash.
The problem was first discovered after a routine inspection at Joyson Safety Systems’ factory in Mexico, where the seat belts are manufactured.
Toyota estimates that less than 0.1% of affected vehicles actually have defective seat belts. 32,529 Camrys make up the bulk of the recall, followed by the Lexus RX350 with 3,242 affected units.
Owner notifications will begin in late March or early April. Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the second-row center seat belt and, if necessary, replace the seat belt assembly at no cost to the owner. Toyota is advising owners of affected models to wait for the official recall notice and schedule an appointment with a dealer for inspection once notified.
