2027 Honda Passport: 5 Things You Need to Know
Honda has revealed the 2027 Passport TrailSport, and the headline change is a suspension overhaul that pushes the adventure SUV further off-road than any Honda before it. The updated models begin arriving at dealerships this month. Here are the five things that matter most.
1. More Ground Clearance
The centerpiece is an extensively reengineered suspension that lifts ground clearance to 9.65 inches, a gain of 1.38 inches over the 2026 model. Approach and departure angles both rise to 25 degrees from 23, while the breakover angle improves to 23 degrees from 20.
Honda calls the 2027 Passport TrailSport and TrailSport Elite its most off-road-ready SUVs yet, clearing more ground than the Toyota 4Runner TRD Off-Road, Subaru Outback Wilderness and Ford Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch.
Rather than fitting taller springs alone, Honda engineers rebuilt the geometry to preserve on-road handling and ride quality. Close to seven in ten of the key suspension pieces were reworked, spanning the coils, dampers, control arms, sway bars and steering knuckles. The forward driveshafts and the front subframe were reworked as well to make room for the taller ride height and greater wheel travel.
In total, 28 suspension and related chassis parts are redesigned, reengineered or new for 2027. Honda also says the changes improve steering feel and response for everyday driving.

2. Standard TraiWatch
The second point is standardized off-road hardware. The TrailWatch camera system, which had been reserved for the range-topping Elite, now comes standard on every TrailSport variant.
The system offers a quartet of vantage points — forward, rearward, side and a full 360-degree wrap — plus tire placement graphics to help drivers navigate blind crests, deep ruts and trail edges outside their natural line of sight. A heated steering wheel, also once limited to the Elite, is now standard as well.
3. More Off-Road Style
Third is the tougher styling. Working out of the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles, designers fitted the 2027 models with beefier fender flares at both ends, a reshaped lower front bumper area, and twin amber LED lamps set into the hood scoop that echo the existing amber daytime running lights.
On the color and trim side, the Blackout Package — offered across every TrailSport trim — now brings black front and rear fascias, pairing with the package's black 18-inch alloy wheels and darkened Honda emblems. Smoke Blue Pearl, which debuted on the 2026 Pilot, joins the palette in place of Obsidian Blue Pearl.
4. Upgraded Software
Fourth is software. This summer Honda launched the Honda Trail Experience (HTX) app, developed by Honda U.S. engineers with input from more than 1,500 TrailSport owners. The app is built for owners of the 2026 and 2027 Passport TrailSport, Pilot TrailSport and CR-V TrailSport looking to enhance their off-road trips.
5. Honda Doubles Down on the Off-Road Segment
Fifth is the commercial context behind the updates. The fourth-generation Passport debuted in early 2025 and has posted multiple sales records since, with TrailSport models accounting for more than 80 percent of Passport sales as of June 2026.
Production takes place solely at Honda's Alabama Auto Plant, drawing on parts sourced both domestically and from abroad. Early in 2027, Honda also plans to ship the range-topping Elite version to buyers in Japan.
"By enhancing both the driving experience and off-road capability, Honda Passport offers our customers an SUV for their daily life and next great adventure," said Luis Guerra, Honda's assistant vice president of national auto sales.
