Ford Drops The 795-HP Top On 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible
Ford Racing has decided to pop the top. Enter the 2027 Mustang Dark Horse SC Convertible.
Where the SC coupe, shown earlier this year, prioritizes razor-sharp apex hunting and lap times, Ford says the unlimited-headroom convertible version sways toward a street presence and raw grand touring capability.
“If the coupe is the race-bred side of our DNA, this convertible is the pure street cred part of the formula,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Racing. “It's just pure fun, fast, freedom.”
Under the vented aluminum hood sits the same hand-built 5.2-liter supercharged V8 churning out 795 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque. Power routes to the rear rubber via Ford's tried-and-true seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
To manage the structural demands of dropping the roof while housing nearly 800 force-fed ponies, Ford Racing engineers anchored the front structure with a lightweight, high-strength magnesium tower-to-tower brace. Paired with a bespoke calibration for the next-generation MagneRide adaptive suspension, the setup balances cruising comfort with planted high-speed stability.
“Both the Dark Horse SC coupe and convertible have been developed by our Ford Racing engineers,” said Arie Groeneveld, Mustang Dark Horse SC chief engineer. “But instead of prioritizing the convertible for setting lap times, we’ve engineered it to be the ultimate top-down grand touring machine.”
Like the coupe, the Dark Horse SC convertible wears fresh visual cues for the S650 generation, featuring an aggressive front fascia, a wider stance, and new colorways like Precision Purple exterior paint. Inside, the cabin can be optioned in Black Onyx or Space Gray, framed by a curved digital display and the Dark Horse's track-ready driver controls.
Order books for the Mustang Dark Horse SC convertible open in fall 2026, with initial showroom deliveries scheduled for spring 2027. Pricing has not been announced, but considering the Dark Horse SC coupe starts at $106,585, it's probably safe to budget somewhere in the range of $120,000.
