Rick Hendrick, NASCAR Cup Series team owner and Chevrolet dealer bought the first 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 production at auction this weekend.

Hendrick secured the first C8 ZR1 at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale for $3.7 million— well north of the car's $174,995 MSRP. Hendrick has a history of making headlines at Barrett-Jackson, previously spending $3 million on the first C8 Corvette Stingray and $3.6 million on the first C8 Corvette Z06.

Hendrick’s Corvette obsession began in 1971 with a 1963 Corvette that he used for his first date with his wife. Though that car was later sold to fund his first dealership, the passion for America's Sports Car has remained with him, and sparked a collection now numbering over 120 Corvettes. Hendrick loves Corvette's so much he even has a place in the Corvette Hall of Fame.

"My love for Corvettes goes back to when I was a teenager," Hendrick said. "It was the love for the car that got me into racing and the automobile business. To be honored at a place where so many of the Corvette greats are honored — it’s just humbling."

The 2025 ZR1 is easily the most powerful Corvette in the Hendrick collection. Powered by the all-new LT7 engine, this ZR1 features a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8, delivering an astounding 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm. The ZR1 set a new benchmark for Corvette performance and was the most expensive item sold during Barrett-Jackson’s "Super Saturday."

This year’s Super Saturday raised $5.2 million for charity, including funds for the Red Cross to assist those affected by the California wildfires and the 2024 Southeastern United States hurricanes. Hendrick’s $3.7 million bid was a large part of the proceeds.
