This 1,527-horsepower EV is now the third-quickest vehicle at the 'Ring.

Chinese brand Xiaomi has been busy setting Nürburgring times. While the production SU7 Ultra sedan has reeled off an impressive 07:04.957 lap time—good enough for the title of quickest production EV—a no-holds-barred prototype model has positively obliterated that time with a 06:22.091 lap of the vaunted 12.94-mile (20.83-kilometer) track.

The SU7 Ultra is a four-door electric car in the mold of the Porsche Taycan. With a tri-motor setup, Xiaomi says it's good for 1,527 horsepower and won't run out of steam until 217 mph (350 km/h). The record-setting car is a one-off made to push the platform to the extreme, with unique bodywork including a massive rear wing. There are also non-production wheels and tires. Nevermind the nearly 43-second gap between the production model and the prototype; this lap is itself quicker than the 06:46.874 set last year in the same car. That run was in the wet; Xiaomi says the quicker lap was achieved "under optimal conditions."

While the Chinese market won't be able to buy a model just like this record-setter, there will be a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Nürburgring Edition celebrating the four-doors 'Ring records. Limited to a production run of just 10 for this year, this special edition adds unique carbon fiber Sparco racing buckets with six-point harnesses, plus a hood, side skirts, mirrors, and rear wing made out of the weave. Like the Taycan Turbo GT's Weissach Package, the SU7 Ultra Nürburgring Edition also ditches the rear seats, dropping in a complex steel roll cage. The flat underbody gains carbon fiber trim to add a further 97 pounds (44 kilograms) of downforce, though Xiaomi doesn't specify at what speed that is generated.

The special edition car also includes the Track Package as standard. Available on the "regular" SU7 Ultra, this pack bundles Bilstein coilovers, Endless brake brake pads, 21-inch alloy wheels, and a carbon fiber roof together. The package also includes two sets of tires: P Zeroes as well as P Zero Trofeo RS semi-slicks.

While we don't expect to see Xiaomi cars of any sort in the US or Canada for a while, gamers can look forward to the brand being added to Gran Turismo 7 in the near future.
