Ioniq 5 N Priced from $80,149 in Canada
On one hand: a lot of money. On the other: 641 horsepower.
Hyundai Canada on Friday morning announced the national pricing for its high-performance Ioniq 5 N. The hot quasi-hatchback will list for $80,149 CAD including destination charges, and will be available at dealerships in a manner of weeks.
For comparison's sake, the American pricing is $67,475. In both cases, the Ioniq 5 N comes in as a one-stop shop trim, with no options to speak of. Hyundai has thrown everything it has at this new N flagship, including a higher-density battery pack (now 84.0 kilowatt-hours) and two hi-po electric motors. The combined figure is 601 horsepower, though a quick poke of the N Grin Boost button bumps that up to 641 hp. Engineering changes include additional chassis stiffening, a lower suspension (by 15 mm), and 50-mm fender extensions to snug those 21-inch wheels under the car. The wheels are wrapped in sticky Pirelli P Zero rubber, measuring 275/35 at all four corners. The cabin sees a makeover too, with a braced center console (with knee padding for high-g action) and sport seats mounted 15 mm lower than those in the standard car.
The Ioniq 5 N is a whole new generation of N product, and the first fully electric model. To that end, Hyundai has fitted the Ioniq 5 N with all manner of drive modes, including settings better tailored for hot laps or longer stints. No options? So no option for the vision roof? That is one of the things that makes the Ioniq 5 attractive. At this price point, this is also a daily driver. Major fail if people in North America can’t have the same options as in the UK, Australia and Asia where this N variant has the glass roof as an option. I have money down with a dealer in the US who says he “hasn’t heard yet” but they’ll lose my sale without the Vision roof.
For me, this car would be perfect with that roof and all these other great features.
