The Top 20 Most American Cars
Every year, Cars.com compiles a list of what it calls the Most American Cars. The 2025 edition marks the 20th year of the American-Made Index, and for those who aren’t familiar with the way the list is compiled, some of the entries are likely to be quite surprising.

1. Tesla Model 3
At the top of the list sits the Tesla Model 3. It’s assembled in California and Tesla is an American brand, so this comes as little surprise.
2. Tesla Model Y
Another Tesla, the Model Y, lands in second place. It’s assembled in both California and Texas. Interestingly, the top two Tesla models swapped places compared to the 2024 version of the list.
3. Tesla Model S
Like the smaller Tesla Model 3, the Model S sedan is assembled in Fremont, California. According to Cars.com, the fact that Tesla employs so many Americans helps it in these rankings.
4. Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X is the final entry from the American brand on this list. This is the second time that all four of Tesla’s four passenger vehicles swept the top four slots on the list. The other time was in 2023.
5. Jeep Gladiator
The Jeep Gladiator is assembled in Toledo, Ohio, the birthplace of the Jeep brand. The Gladiator climbed three spots in the 2025 rankings compared to the year prior.
6. Kia EV6
The Kia EV6 is the first vehicle from a foreign automaker to land in the top 20 on the American-Made Index, but it certainly won’t be the last. Interestingly, two of the top 20 on the list are Korean, and both are assembled in Georgia.
7. Honda Ridgeline
Get used to seeing vehicles from Honda on the American-Made Index. Honda operates several production plants in the United States, and the Ridgeline pickup truck is assembled in Alabama.
8. Honda Odyssey
Like the Ridgeline that came just before, the Odyssey is assembled in Lincoln, Alabama. Interestingly, the Odyssey has been built in North America since the second-generation debuted for the 1999 model year, and was actually exported to Japan, where it wore the LaGreat nameplate between 1999 and 2004.
9. Honda Passport
The Passport in ninth spot is the third Honda in a row on this list. The first two Passport generations, built between 1994 through 2002, were designed by Isuzu (which marketed its own version as the Rodeo) and built in Indiana. Starting in 2019, the Honda-designed Passport began production in Alabama.
10. Volkswagen ID.4
The first and only German vehicle in the top 20 on the American-Made Index is the Volkswagen ID.4 in 10th place. ID.4 models sold in North America are assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, though the machine is produced in Germany and China for other markets as well.
11. Acura MDX
The first of two Acura models in the top 20 is the MDX sport utility vehicle. It’s currently assembled in Ohio, though it was built in Ontario, Canada from 2001 through 2013 and Alabama from 2013 through 2017.
12. Honda Pilot
The final Honda that’s assembled in Alabama to land a spot in the top 20 is the Pilot SUV. It’s closely related to the Passport that we saw in ninth place, and has been produced in the United States since its introduction for the 2003 model year (Canadian models were built in Ontario for a period as well).
13. Jeep Wrangler
Like the Gladiator pickup truck that we saw in fifth place, the Jeep Wrangler is assembled in the automaker’s birthplace of Toledo, Ohio. Cars.com specifically calls out the V8-powered Wrangler, which uses a 6.4-liter Hemi engine that has so far been produced in Mexico, though Stellantis has said production will shift to plants in Michigan in 2025.
14. Acura RDX
The larger Acura MDX landed in 11th while its smaller RDX sibling slid to 14th. Both of Acura’s SUV models are assembled in East Liberty, Ohio, though they use engines and transmissions built in separate locations with globally sourced parts.
15. Honda Accord
The Honda Accord sedan has been built in Ohio since 1981. It was the first Honda to be built in the United States and continues to be produced at Honda’s plant in Marysville, Ohio to this day. The Acura TLX and Integra are also assembled at the Marysville plant, while the Goldwing motorcycle is assembled at a separate plant in the same city.
16. Acura Integra
Not surprisingly, considering it’s built at the same manufacturing facility as the Honda Accord, the Acura Integra sits one spot later on the American-Made Index for 2025. The ILX that was replaced by the Integra had been built in Marysville, Ohio, as well.
17. Kia Sportage
The second and final Kia on the list, the Sportage, is assembled in West Point, Georgia, which is the same plant where the EV6 in sixth place is produced. For those keeping track, the Sportage is also built in Bangladesh, China, Malaysia, Pakistan, Slovakia, South Korea, Russia and Vietnam.
18. Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
The first and only Toyota to land in the top 20 of Cars.com’s American-Made Index is the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. It’s assembled in Huntsville, Alabama, which, interestingly, also produces the Mazda CX-50. The plant went live in September 2021 and was created as a joint venture between Mazda and Toyota.
19. Chevrolet Colorado
Though the Chevrolet brand has long been considered a classic American staple – remember those Heartbeat of America commercials from the 1980s? – the first and only vehicle wearing a Bowtie badge on the American-Made Index for 2025 is the Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. It’s assembled in Missouri alongside the GMC Canyon, which, if we were to keep going, you’d see in 42nd place.
20. Nissan Pathfinder
In 20th place, we find the Nissan Pathfinder. It’s the only vehicle in the top 20 to wear a Nissan badge, and you’d have to drop all the way down to the 71st spot to find the Frontier. Both the Pathfinder and Frontier are built in America, the Pathfinder in Tennessee and the Frontier in Mississippi.
