2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid: All The Details
Subaru has unveiled its first hybrid Forester for the U.S. market, set to arrive in spring 2025. The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid introduces a new series-parallel hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer engine with electric motors and a high-capacity lithium-ion battery. The result is 194 total system horsepower, up from the standard 2025 Forester’s 180 hp, along with up to 40% better fuel economy.

With an estimated 35 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, the Forester Hybrid offers an improvement of 10 mpg in city driving over its non-hybrid counterpart.
The hybrid system is designed to integrate seamlessly with the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, preserving the off-road capability Forester owners expect.
It comes equipped with X-MODE Dual Mode, Hill Descent Control, and Active Torque Vectoring, maintaining its 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
The hybrid powertrain is Subaru’s next-generation series-parallel system, allowing the vehicle to operate using electric power, gasoline power, or a combination of both.
The hybrid model features a newly developed Atkinson/Miller-cycle 2.5-liter engine, paired with a Lineartronic CVT and a high-capacity, sealed lithium-ion battery.
Compared to the gasoline-powered Forester, the hybrid version is expected to provide up to 40% better fuel economy in city driving and 25% better efficiency in combined driving conditions.
The 2025 Forester Hybrid comes standard with Subaru’s latest EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which has been updated for smoother operation and quicker response times.
The system now features an expanded field of view, upgraded control software, and an electric brake booster, improving detection of pedestrians and cyclists at intersections.
Other available safety features include Reverse Automatic Braking, Blind-Spot Detection, and Lane Change Assist.
A new Emergency Stop Assist function, included with Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, will automatically stop the vehicle, activate hazard lights, and unlock the doors if the driver becomes unresponsive, with Subaru Connected Services placing an emergency call.

The hybrid model will also introduce an exclusive Daybreak Blue Pearl exterior color and optional contrast Crystal Black Silica roof.
As the first Subaru hybrid model for the U.S. market, it signals the brand’s move toward greater electrification while maintaining its signature all-weather and off-road capability.
