Honda's racing division, HRC, will be showing off the brand's new 2026 Formula 1 (F1) power unit in central Tokyo on the 20th of January.

The term power unit is used because, as per the new regulations in Formula 1, cars will be motivated by 50% internal combustion power and 50% electric power. It's all part of a complete overhaul of car construction next year that sees many new manufacturers entering the sport, as well as new partnerships. One of those new partnerships is Honda developing engines for the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.

Having been in and out of the sport since 1964, Honda last provided official factory-backed power units to the Red Bull and Alpha Tauri F1 teams in 2021. Although those teams still used engines based on the Honda design up until this year, 2026 will mark Honda's official return to the sport.

The event will occur at 13:00 JST (04:00 GMT) on the 20th of January, or 23:00 ET / 20:00 PT (which will actually still be the 19th of January). For those that want to watch the reveal, it will be livestreamed on YouTube in both English and Japanese. Expect to see details for the livestream links later in January.

On hand at the premiere will be Toshihiro Mibe – President and CEO of Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Lawrence Stroll – Executive Chairman, Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team - and Stefano Domenicali – President and CEO of Formula 1.
