Kia Carnival and Genesis Vehicles Have This Leaky Problem In Common
Hyundai Motor Group has issued a recall affecting vehicles from Kia and Genesis due to a potential fuel system issue that could lead to a leak.
According to the recall notice, fuel may escape at the connection point between the fuel crossover pipe and the fuel rail. A leak in this area can dramatically increase the risk of fire because it's relatively easy for liquid fuel to come in contact with the hot engine.
Kia is recalling 141,032 Carnival minivans from the 2022 to 2025 model years. Genesis is recalling 94,760 vehicles, including the GV70, G90, G80, and GV80 built in various stretches between 2021 and 2025.
According to the recall documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the crossover fuel pipe connecting the left and right fuel rails of the 3.5L V6 engines—turbocharged or not, they use the same pipe supplied by Usui International—in the recalled vehicles may have been installed with incorrect torque, meaning the connection may gradually loosen over time.
HMG says there have been no reports of fires or injuries, but 258 Kia Carnivals were found to have leaking crossover fuel pipes so far.
Dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and either tighten the connection or replace the fuel pipe if necessary. All repairs will be carried out at no cost to owners.
