Gran Turismo 7 Spec III Update Adds 8 Cars and Two F1 Tracks For Free

Sim racing fans will get a wealth of content just in time for the holidays.
Gran Turismo 7 launched in March of 2022. Developer Polyphony Digital has been keeping the game fresh for the last three years with regular (and free) content updates. While the game just received its latest batch of new cars this week—including the Hyundai Elantra N and Toyota RAV4—Polyphony has announced the next major update coming in December: Spec III.
Larger Gran Turismo updates have traditionally arrived as "Spec" updates, signalling a new chapter for their respective titles. GT7 saw its own Spec II update in November 2023, adding seven cars, a new fictional track set at Canada's Lake Louise, and other content, all topped with a new intro video. Spec III goes even bigger, with eight cars joining the roster and two tracks, another of which is Canadian: Yas Marina Circuit and Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve.
Polyphony has already shown off half of the new cars. We see franchise favorites like the Mitsubishi FTO GP Version R and Mine's R34 Skyline GT-R, and a new race car in the shape of the Ferrari 296 GT3. There's also a Polyphony-crafted formula car, which looks like a mid-aughts homage but there are no other details.
Other changes sure to please GT7 players are new race events, adjustments to the game's leveling and car invite systems, and revised weekly challenges. The Data Logger, a system that allows for in-depth exploration of replay data, is returning for the first time since the PlayStation 3 era. Dunlop was recently announced as a tire sponsor, so it will arrive in-game (with an expected accompanying physics tweak) as well. Last but not least, another new intro video will kick off the show.
It's impressive to see so much support for a game over three years after release. We've already talked about how GT7 is recapturing the magic of the original by focusing on the cars we all regularly see on the road: SUVs. Expect at least one more in this eight-car lineup.
Gran Turismo's yearly World Finals, where the best drivers meet in-person, is set for December 20. We expect this update to land around that time.
