Genesis Magma GT Concept is a Gorgeous Mid-Engined Sports Car

Genesis says this "defines the direction of the brand’s performance heritage for the next 10 years," but we'll take it right now, thanks.

Genesis, as a standalone brand, is now a decade old. To celebrate, the Korean luxury brand gathered in the south of France to debut not one but two models. One is the production version of the GV60 Magma, which we knew was coming. But the second, the Magma GT Concept, is something altogether different.

Let's get one thing clear: there are precisely zero performance figures or even a sniff (or hum) of a powertrain mentioned here. Yet the messaging is clear: Genesis wants a halo model of its own, not just for the road but one that it can also take racing in the various GT categories around the world. That certainly suggests an internal combustion engine at least, and there is a turbo V8 installed in the middle of the brand's GMR-001 race car...

But just look at this thing. A flowing, compact sports car design with a wraparound glasshouse design, it shows the elasticity of the brand's twin-line motif. We especially like the chopped tail, with only the full-width taillights and Genesis word mark set against a whole lot of mesh. There's very little fuss to the design, with minimal creases and no huge wings. It's gorgeous. We haven't seen the interior yet, other than the Recaro buckets just barely visible in one of the photos.

"The Magma GT Concept represents the pinnacle of our performance vision and stands as a symbol of our commitment to true motorsport capability," said Luc Donckerwolke, president and chief creative officer at Genesis. "It isn’t defined by raw aggression or uncompromising speed — it is defined by balance. This is a car that feels instinctively connected to its driver, composed under pressure, and meticulously tuned so that every component serves a single purpose: to make performance effortless."

Donckerwolke goes on to call the Magma GT "the most complete expression of Genesis performance to date," while the accompanying press release says the car would blend luxury with track-bred capability.

With this concept being the latest in a long line of halo model teasers, we're going to echo the sentiment we've had for most of them: build it, Genesis. We look forward to seeing what comes next in this mid-engined lineage.
