Genesis GV60 Magma Kicks Off Sub-Brand as 641-HP EV
The hotter GV60 boasts 641 horsepower, 583 pound-feet of torque, and a dedicated Drift Mode. Bring it on.
Genesis wasn't just debuting gorgeous mid-engined concepts and the latest production sedan special this week. At the LA Auto Show the brand officially showed off the production version of the 2027 GV60 Magma. This tuned-up electric crossover will officially launch the Magma sub-brand, one Genesis says will be coming to every model in the lineup.
The GV60 is the twin-lined, uniquely-shaped, Crystal Sphere shifter'd cousin of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, so naturally the Magma shares a lot of DNA with their respective hi-po offerings, the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT. That includes a larger 84.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack and pumped up performance figures: a headline 641 horsepower is nothing new, but the peak 583 pound-feet, available through Boost Mode in 15-second bursts, sure is. The Magma also adopts the fun simulated shifting feature, but evolves it by adjusting output, torque, and regenerative braking to better simulate the traditional experience. Genesis says it's paired with the sound of a "high-revving engine." The 2.0-liter that the Ioniq 5 N simulates isn't available in any Genesis products, so we're curious what soundtrack the Magma will feature. Maybe the rumored V8 for the Magma GT concept...
Other performance upgrades include a 0.8-inch (20-millimeter) suspension drop for a lower center of gravity, plus sticky 275-width tires on 21-inch wheels. Genesis has retuned the adaptive suspension for a lower roll center, refined the geometry, and added what it calls Hydro G-bushings on the front suspension to minimize vibrations. There are myriad drive mode configurations, many of which alter the digital instrument cluster and head-up displays. Let's not forget launch control: Genesis is quoting a charge to 124 mph (200 km/h) in just 10.9 seconds. Oh yeah, and Drift Mode for suitably sideways shenanigans.
Since this is a Genesis, a level of luxury is expected. Active noise cancellation and sound-insulating glass should keep the cabin hushed when the driver isn't hustling along.
The look is suitably racy, with the exterior ditching the chrome trim of lesser trims for glossy black. The front bumper boasts larger intakes, corner canards, and a trio of small cooling vents that will become a Magma calling card. A large fixed rear wing contributes real downforce to keep the GV60 Magma planted: on a race track, it will clock 164 mph (264 km/h).
Chamude. That's the name of the suede-like material that covers much of the GV60 Magma's cabin. The space is largely monochrome, with black and gray materials punctuated by metallic finishes and plenty of orange contrast stitching. The steering wheel is unique to the Magma as well.
The 2027 Genesis GV60 Magma will arrive on our shores in 2026. Expect pricing details closer to launch.
