Afeela Prototype 2026 is the Electric SUV Equivalent of Beige

The Sony-Honda partnership sees its next vehicle, with plans for a production model by 2028.

Right as the very first Afeela 1 electric cars are rolling off production lines, the joint venture between Sony and Honda Mobility has showcased its second model. Joining the Afeela presentation at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the simply titled Afeela Prototype 2026 previews the brand's next model, a coupe-like SUV.

There's precious little info on the concept; all we know is that it should offer buyers more room than the Afeela 1 sedan, and a production model should arrive well before the end of the decade.

The Prototype 2026's styling keeps to the same look as its sibling, which is to say ultra-minimal. Up front is the same clear plastic trim piece with light-up badge and full-width LED light signature, and a slightly larger lower air intake. The flanks are similarly clean save for one flourish low on the doors, and the rear features a thicker version of the sedan's full-width taillight treatment. A black roof features the same array of sensors above the windshield, and the wheels are once again six-spoke affairs. Arguably the most daring bit of design here is the integrated lip spoiler.

Look, we really try to avoid saying this because it's kind of a cliché at this point, but there's no avoiding it: this looks like a Grand Theft Auto car. An EV start-up can have interesting and engaging design: just look at Rivian and Lucid. Even the mainstream brands can offer up a distinctive style, like the new BMW iX3.

While there are no technical details available, we assume the eventual SUV production model (Afeela 2? Is Polestar okay with this?) would borrow heavily from the Afeela 1. That translates to a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with around 400 horsepower, pulling power from a 91.0-kilowatt-hour battery pack for somewhere slightly south of 300 miles (483 kilometers) of range. Those stats are fine but unremarkable here in 2026, especially as the sedan is priced at $89,900 to start or $102,990 for its top "Signature" trim. Hey, at least you get an integrated PlayStation 5; you could even drive the Afeela 1 in Gran Turismo 7 inside your Afeela 1.

With prices from $90,000 to $102,000 I'm offended. That's not affordable.

...and it will devalue faster than ice cream. Is the market for $100k EVs really that compelling?
