Lincoln MKC to Be Renamed Corsair With 2020 Redesign
The Lincoln MKC will be redesigned for the 2020 model year, at which point the American automaker will rename the vehicle Corsair.
According to a new report from Automotive News, the Corsair crossover, a redesigned version of the MKC, was shown to Ford dealers at a meeting in Orlando in May. The automaker has decided to ditch the confusing ‘MK’ nomenclature that is currently used to denote its vehicles in favor of travel-themed nameplates such as Navigator, Aviator and Nautilus. The Corsair name, which refers to a pirate or sailor of French descent, is in line with this naming convention – although AN’s sources said Lincoln could decide to change the name before it goes into production in 2020 as a 2021 model year vehicle.

Ford trademarked ‘Corsair’ with United States Patent and Trademark Office last summer, as Ford Authority reports, lending some credence to this rumor. A heavily camouflaged, MKC-sized Lincoln crossover was also spied late last month, providing further proof the automaker is working on an all-new compact crossover that will soon replace the MKC, which was introduced for the 2015 model year.
Lincoln will allegedly introduce an updated 2019 MKC sometime this year before the renamed, next-generation version arrives in 2020. The updated vehicle will feature the latest in Lincoln’s in-car technology and will also feature a new mesh grille design, AN reports.
