Watch Ford GT Drivers Prepping in a Simulator for Le Mans
Ford is heading back to Le Mans after 50 years absent this year with the new GT and its entire team is busy preparing.
To make sure that its drivers are ready for any racetrack, a full race-car simulator was built at the Ford Technical Center in Concord, N.C. back in 2014, and is being put to full use this year. Since the chances to get tto Le Mans are few and far between, having a simulator is a must for the drivers who want to practice before showing up for the big race.
“You want the driver to believe they are driving the real car. We’re able to use the simulator to do driver training at some of the tracks we don’t get to very often, like Le Mans,” said Mark Rushbrook, Ford performance motorsports engineering manager.

Ford will campaign four different GT’s at Le Mans this year, which will take place on June 18-19. The GT race cars sport a number of features that will make them competitive including state-of-the-art aerodynamics and a lightweight carbon fibre chassis that is light and rigid. Powering these race cars is a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 that makes over 600 horsepower.
