Abarth 124 Spider Expected to Bow Tomorrow

The Abarth 124 Spider will reportedly make its debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

This high-performance version of the Fiat 124 Spider was allegedly spotted while being tested late last year. This was after the standard Fiat 124 Spider made its debut at the 2015 L.A. Auto Show. In a report from Italian daily Corriere Della Sera, Fiat’s EMEA region chief operating officer, Alfredo Altavilla, confirmed that the Abarth 124 Spider will be part of Fiat’s debuts in Switzerland. He also added that the show will be “an unprecedented event for FCA, the most significant in years.”

Also making their debuts will be two variants of the Fiat Tipo, a five-door and a station wagon, as well as a special version of Fiat’s Fullback truck based on the Mitsubishi L200.

FCA’s other brands will also be represented at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The Maserati Levante SUV as well as updated Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Mito models and also are expected to debut.

The Fiat 124 Spider shares its platform with the new Mazda MX-5 Miata and features a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that’s good for 160 horsepower. However, the Abarth version is expected to use a detuned version of the Alfa Romeo 4C’s engine, producing anywhere from 170 to 200 horsepower in the sporty convertible.
