The new Ford Mustang is not even on Australian streets yet and it is already sold out through 2017.

Mustang deliveries in Australia will start in January 2016, and today Ford of Australia announced that it has already received 4000 orders for the new Mustang. Of those cars, about 3200 have already been secured by deposits, which is more than the country’s allocation of Mustangs for all of 2016.

Overwhelmingly, the first batch of Australian customers went with the 5.0-liter V8, with 86 percent opting for the 435-horsepower eight-cylinder option. Ford expects that EcoBoost powered Mustangs will become more popular after the initial batch of customers take their car home.

The Aussies also prefer to have a roof over their heads it seems as 88 percent of Mustangs sold were fastback coupe models rather than convertibles.

“We are simply overwhelmed and humbled by the reception to Mustang thus far, which is probably our closest equivalent to the Beatles first trip to Australia,” said Ford Australia president and CEO, Graeme Whickman.

The car starts at $44,990 for a fastback manual model, while a V8-powered Mustang starts at $54,000 in Australia.
