Daytona 500 Pace Car to Be Driven by GM President
General Motors president Mark Reuss will drive the Chevrolet SS pace car this weekend to begin the Daytona 500.
“Leading the Daytona 500 starting field to green driving a 2014 Chevrolet SS pace car on one of the most famous race tracks in the world will be a special honor for me,” Reuss said. “I can’t wait to drive across the start/finish line and on into Turn 1. I know it will be difficult to turn down onto pit road when it’s over because I will want to make that moment last as long as possible.”

A continuation of the Holden Commodore-based Pontiac G8, the Chevrolet SS is the brand’s first rear-wheel drive V8-powered sedan since the Caprice in 1996.
A 6.2-liter LS3 V8 sits under the hood and pushes the car from 0-60 mph in about five seconds according to GM, although an official time still isn’t clocked.
The SS will be on sale in the fourth quarter of 2013. Pricing remains unannounced, but GM already said the car is slated for relatively small scale production. Given that, it seems unlikely that it will follow the Camaro’s bang for your buck power bargain.
