The 2024 J.D Power APEAL study was released last week with interesting insights for those in the market for a premium or luxury car.

The J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study evaluates new vehicles based on owner feedback collected after 90 days. It assesses over 40 specific vehicle attributes across 10 key areas, including design, performance, safety, usability, comfort, and perceived quality.

The study examines experiences such as approaching the vehicle, entry and exit, start-up, powertrain performance, fuel efficiency, infotainment, safety, and comfort. Higher APEAL scores correlate with better value retention and a greater likelihood of owners recommending their vehicles, highlighting the positive long-term impact on market perception.

Based on the study, these are the 5 highest ranking premium and luxury brands according to owner feedback.

Apparently the ranking for quality does not include the tendency to require significant repairs. Several of these makes are notorious for poor reliability and yet they are listed here. With a Range Rover, you actually should have two so that you have something to drive when the other one is in the shop!
