New 2025 Volkswagen Tayron Previews America's Next Tiguan

Over in Europe, Volkswagen has introduced the new Tayron SUV.

It’s positioned between the Tiguan (familiar to VW buyers on this side of the Atlantic) and the Touareg, which we don’t get.

Why care?

Volkswagen issued a media advisory shortly after the debut, telling us that “while this model is widely reported to represent the next version of the Tiguan for the U.S. market, be advised that while the U.S. Tiguan will receive the long-wheelbase setup of this model, the sheetmetal, powertrain options, and equipment set will differ markedly. More details about the U.S. Tiguan offer will be forthcoming later this year.”

In essence, the Tayron is a loose preview of what’s to come for North America. It’s nine inches longer than the Tiguan with a further 4.5 inches of wheelbase. It’s also a bit taller and wider than your average Tiguan. As a result of the stretched dimensions, cargo space is a hefty 73.8 cubic feet with the second row folded (12.2 with all rows in place). However, be aware a hybrid version, if offered here in the Americas, will eat some of this up with a battery.

Speaking of powertrains, all Tayron models will get VW’s dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the base model relies on a 148-horsepower four-cylinder for motivation. There are also more powerful versions with up to 261 horsepower, and a hybrid topping out a 268 horses. Considering VW just ditched the DCT in the 2025 Taos in favor of a conventional auto its possible we see a similar swap when the Tayron heads across.

Inside, VW has its latest infotainment, and while some of these powertrains may not make it Stateside, the new 15-inch screen almost certainly will. The digital dash should too, measuring 10.25 inches. Volkswagen tells us the 2025 US-spec Tiguan will debut on November 20 at the LA Auto Show.
