Porsche Says Hybrid 911 Turbo Coming Next Year

Porsche is diversifying its 911 lineup with hybrid variants, aiming to deliver an electrified version of the 911 Turbo by 2025.


This comes after the upcoming 911 GTS hybrid, slated to launch this quarter as the first electrified 911 derivative. Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the 911 Turbo, Porsche plans to introduce this hybrid model while still retaining the car's signature turbocharged engine, marking a blend of traditional performance with modern hybrid technology.

During Porsche's Q3 2024 sales call, Lutz Meschke, Porsche’s CFO, confirmed that the 911 Turbo’s battery cells will be sourced from Varta.


Porsche's collaboration with Varta, particularly through a majority stake in V4Drive Battery GmbH, supports the production of high-performance lithium-ion round cells that already power the 911 GTS and will support the future hybrid Turbo. These cells are currently in the “industrialization process,” allowing Porsche to ramp up production as it heads toward hybridizing its entire lineup.

The 911 GTS hybrid comes at a premium, with an estimated $14,000 increase over the outgoing model, bringing the starting price up to around $166,895. With the gas-only 911 Turbo already available in the U.S., it’s anticipated that the hybrid Turbo will likely bring a significant price increase.


Despite Porsche’s shift to electrification, the brand has ruled out a fully electric 911 this decade. Porsche recently confirmed it would walk back some of its EV-only plans, instead opting to continue with combustion-powered models alongside BEV models.
