Honda Recalls 440,000 Odyssey Minivans For Decade Old Airbag Issue
Honda is recalling more than 440,000 Odyssey minivans in the United States due to a software issue that could lead to unintended airbag deployment.
The recall covers 440,830 vehicles and centers on a programming fault that may cause the side and side-curtain airbags to deploy without warning.
According to documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the SRS control module contains incorrect deployment parameters for the side and side curtain airbags, which could cause inadvertent deployment when the vehicle experiences stronger-than-usual road impacts—like quickly driving over potholes, speed bumps, or debris.
Honda says the SRS control logic for the second and third rows could mistakenly interpret G-signal inputs as side impacts, causing inadvertent deployment of the side and side curtain airbags.
The automaker has known about this issue for almost a decade—the first reported incident happened way back in November of 2017. Since then, Honda has received 130 warranty claims and 25 reports of injury related to inadvertent airbag deployment. Thankfully, there were zero fatalities.
To address the issue, Honda dealers will update the affected vehicles with revised software at no cost to owners. Further details and owner notification timing are expected to follow through official recall communications.

Gee, they have known for 10 years and yet they just kept building faulty vehicles???
Sound like they don't care much for their customers safety.
