Ford’s $30K Fathom EV Already Has A Two-Tier Waiting List
Ford’s upcoming Fathom electric pickup hasn’t even been fully revealed, but apparently that hasn’t stopped people from lining up to buy one. Or, more accurately, lining up for an invitation to preorder one.
Call it hot as hot gets, but the general buying public sure does love a vehicle it hasn't even seen yet.
As many automakers have done as of late, Ford has opened a registration list for early preorder invitations ahead of the new model's actual debut and on-sale date. The Fathom electric pickup has immense interest, and the official preorder launch is expected for early 2027. The compact electric truck is expected to start at $29,945, putting it in an intriguing position for buyers who want an EV that delivers what the Maverick promises but with electric power.
Here's where it gets interesting, for Ford at least: The list to get one is long, and growing. Ford has a backlog of pre-orders, and there's a separate "pre-order invites" list as well. That says a lot about a truck that's still yet to be revealed.
There’s still plenty Ford hasn’t revealed, including battery options, range, charging speeds, and payload capacity — not to mention what the thing actually looks like. All-wheel drive is also a possibility, though it hasn’t been confirmed. Really, nothing has, short of the truck's name.
That leaves potential buyers reserving their place in line based largely on a price tag and a list of promises. Still, an affordable electric pickup with useful features could be precisely what the market needs. Ford expects deliveries to begin in late 2027, giving impatient shoppers plenty of time to decide whether the Fathom is worth the wait.
