When you see terms used in product names that imply that the product is the best you can get, it tends to make many consumers rather skeptical. With dash cameras, there has been a rush to increase optical quality as of late, and that has been amazing. We now get clearer footage in any lighting conditions than we ever did before. One area we’ve been hoping to see development in is the overall feel of the units themselves. The buying public wants all the clarity and features possible in a unit that is compact, well-built, and easy to use. The 70mai 4K A900 checks those boxes.

First Impressions

Some dash cams arrive with a massive jumble of wires and cords, confusing directions, and sometimes an overall feeling that you didn’t buy the highest-quality product. None of that is the case with the A900. The directions are quite simple, including the optional hardwire kit. Let me tell you right now, the hardwire kit is so easy to install, and the benefits it offers combine to make it a no-brainer.

The 70mai 4K A900 ready for installation.

The main dash cam unit is also impressive. It has a textured exterior with easy-to-use buttons and a very compact size. It feels well-made, and its smaller size and mounting options make it easier to stash. I could have mounted it behind my rearview mirror, and it would have been nearly invisible, if not for the aftermarket remote starter I have that places an antenna blocking that view.

The Details

70mai’s A900 is a true 4K HDR setup from both the front and rear cameras. This gives you recordings with extreme resolution. That added resolution helps give you better parking protection, as you have very clear footage of what is going on around your vehicle when you are not in it.

Here’s the SIIM card that comes with the A900.

One of my favorite things is the 4G remote access. As part of the easiest-to-install hardwire kits I have ever used, the 4G Access has its own SIM card and creates a separate Wi-Fi system that lets you access the camera’s memory wherever you get a cell signal. It comes with a long enough cord that mounting is easy, too. I mounted mine under the hood, although you could easily route the wiring through the firewall and mount the unit in the cabin. I simply then routed the cord through the body and door frame, making running the power cord to the camera easy. One of the main things to take away here is that running the power and wiring is quite easy and you have many options, letting it suit your needs best.

Here’s the 4G box that works with the SIM card.

Speaking of cords, I mounted the 70mai 4K A900 in a truck with a topper. That meant the rear camera would have a much longer path to the mounting location than say a passenger car or traditional SUV, 70mai includes plenty of cord that made mounting the camera on the back of the topper, in a long-bed pickup truck easy and there was plenty of slack to tuck the cord away out of sight.

Don’t Want Hardwired?

Another cool aspect of this dash cam is that unlike most cameras that require a hardwired kit to provide parked car protection, there is an option for a battery pack backup that provides up to 30 days of power. This lets you plug into your vehicle’s 12-volt plug and run that power cord through the battery pack, which you would mount in your car. The battery powers the camera while the car is turned off, giving you the same 24/7 parked car protection as a hardwired kit.

Who wants that? If you’re not comfortable with doing the wiring that plugs into your fuse box, it is a great option. It also works extremely well for those of you who drive a leased vehicle. Some of those contracts stipulate that you cannot alter the vehicle’s electrical system, and having the A900 with parked car monitoring without needing to hardwire is a really good idea.

Camera Quality

Now, it is easy to say 4K and throw out brand names like Sony for the camera system, but what are you really getting? Actual resolution from the front camera is 3840*2160P 4K at 30 frames per second. You get the same resolution from the rear, also at 30 FPS.

Nighttime footage from the A900 is incredibly clear.

The technical stuff doesn’t end there. The 4K A900 uses 70mai’s Night Owl Vision, a proprietary imaging technology exclusive to 70mai that reduces the noise and glare that traditionally made for grainy, unreliable video coverage after the sun goes down. With Night Owl Vision, you can still clearly capture quality video even in low light or total darkness.

The Bottom Line

Many dash camera systems claim to be amazing with exceptional clarity and coverage. 70mai actually delivers it with the 4K A900. It checks all the boxes for what you need in a dash cam. You also have more options, with the hardwire kit that is easy to install, or the battery backup system that is perfect for those who don’t want to hardwire the camera but still want the protection for those times you leave your car parked.

All the parts of the kit are high quality and are simple and easy to use. You can access and control things from a straightforward app, too. There are additional features of the 4K A900 that you can read about on their website, but what I’ve talked about here is more than enough to make me declare this camera a great buy.
