Want to Feel Old? Red Bull Just Signed Kimi Raikkonen's Son

Fans of Formula 1 have been cheering on youngster Kimi Antonelli this year but it seems like it was just yesterday that another Kimi (Raikkonen) was fighting for podiums.

News has just dropped that in as little as seven years, we could seen anoither Raikkonen participating in the pinnacle of motorsports.

Red Bull have added Robin Raikkonen, the 11-year-old son of 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen, to their driver development programme, the team announced. The young karter, known by the nickname "Ace," will officially begin working with the outfit from 2027 onward.

The signing extends a junior pipeline that has produced Max Verstappen, Carlos Sainz, Sebastian Vettel and, this season, sole rookie Arvid Lindblad. Red Bull described Robin as "one of the most promising young talents of his generation," pointing to results already logged across various karting championships.

Kimi Raikkonen commented on the signing after discussions with team principal Laurent Mekies. "We are all thrilled and excited that Robin has been chosen to further his racing path as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team," the former Ferrari driver said. "Laurent and everyone else at Red Bull have been incredibly supportive throughout all our discussions."

Raikkonen said the programme offered "a compelling and comprehensive" structure to develop his son over the coming years and give him "all the experience required to develop his natural talent, which has amply been displayed in all his karting endeavours to date." He acknowledged the weight of the roster his son now joins, citing Vettel and Verstappen among the alumni. "It is thus with great humility that Robin joins this illustrious programme, and he will dedicate all his efforts to warrant the trust that Red Bull is placing in him," he said.

Mekies echoed the assessment of Robin's karting form. "His speed, racecraft and natural talent have established him as one of the most promising young drivers in his age group," the team principal said, adding that the driver "impresses with his maturity, his calm approach and his clear focus on driving."

Mekies stressed a measured timeline for the 11-year-old. "Our goal is to develop him step by step, without placing any unnecessary pressure on his shoulders," he said. "The path through motorsport is a long one, and we will give him the time, support and resources he needs to maximise his potential." Red Bull said it looks forward to the next steps alongside Robin and his family.
