BMW's iX3 Recall Will Literally Shock You

BMW's all-new iX3 is already facing two recalls in Europe, including one involving a potentially dangerous charging-system fault.

The first recall affects 145 iX3 models built between November 25, 2025, and February 20, 2026. According to German regulatory filings, a defect in the vehicle's onboard charger could allow electrical current to reach the vehicle's body while it is plugged in and charging.

The onboard charger is responsible for converting alternating current (AC) from a charging source into direct current (DC) for the battery pack. BMW says a faulty unit could create a situation where occupants receive an electric shock if they touch the vehicle while it's charging.

BMW has not reported any injuries related to the issue. As a precaution, the company will replace the onboard charger in all affected vehicles regardless of whether a fault is detected. Of the 145 vehicles included in the recall, 28 are located in Germany.

Just days after announcing the charging-related campaign, BMW issued a second recall. This recall affects 4,843 vehicles built between December 18, 2025, and May 8, 2026.

According to BMW, the side airbags may not have been installed to specification during assembly. The automaker says improperly secured airbags could fail to deploy as intended during a collision. In addition, the gas generator used to inflate the airbag could become displaced during deployment, potentially increasing the risk of injury to occupants.

BMW says dealers will inspect the side-airbag mounting hardware and correct any issues as necessary. The company has not received reports of crashes, injuries, or fatalities linked to the defect.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by BMW and instructed to schedule inspections and repairs through authorized dealerships.
