BMW M Division Planning New "Dream Car"

BMW’s M division is reportedly prepping a new limited-production model. While still early in development, the company has confirmed it’s moving toward a low-volume special edition car.

Sylvia Neubauer, Vice President of Customer, Brand, and Sales at BMW M, revealed to BMW Blog during the 24 Hours of Le Mans that a new small-series vehicle has been greenlit, hinting that it will serve as a halo model for the brand. “We have been talking with Adrian van Hooydonk and the team who does the small series planning,” she said during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “There is a slot reserved for BMW M.”

While the exact design or powertrain details haven’t been disclosed, Neubauer emphasized the new model is intended to be a brand-defining vehicle—what she called a “dream car.” The goal is to appeal to dedicated collectors with a limited release of a halo car offered at a very high price. For those of you hoping for a BMW rival to the Mercedes-AMG GT or Porsche 911, this isn't it.

BMW’s last ultra-limited model, the M4-based 3.0 CSL, launched in 2022 with just 50 units built—each priced near $900,000. Despite the price, demand was strong, as was interest in recent design studies like limited production runs of both the Skytop and Speedtop concepts.

The mysterious M car is expected to borrow heavily from existing platforms to keep costs manageable while allowing BMW M to deliver something bespoke for its deepest-pocketed customers. Unfortunately, until more details surface, we can really only speculate.

If BMW is taking suggestions, do something fun like putting one of those S63 twin-turbo V8s into something based on the G8X platform—or get really nuts and do the Porsche thing and do a road-going hypercar based on the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh race car.
