BMW Has Killed The M8 Coupe

BMW has told dealers that production of the M8 Coupe will conclude in early 2025.

While BMW has not provided an official reason for the decision, the move suggests a waning demand for the niche luxury coupe. BMW Blog reports dealers have already been informed that new orders will no longer be accepted, with remaining units to be built before the M8 Coupe is removed from the lineup.

While the M8 Coupe is set to depart, it remains unclear whether production will also cease for the non-M variants, such as the 840i and M850i xDrive coupes. Other 8 Series body styles—the convertible and the four-door Gran Coupe—are expected to continue beyond the 2025 model year.

Since its introduction, the M8 has occupied a distinct performance niche. Available exclusively in Competition spec in recent years, the M8 uses a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine producing 617 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. In its class, the M8 Coupe stands as one of the few German AWD performance coupes, competing with models like the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Mercedes-AMG GT.

BMW’s decision to focus on the four-door Gran Coupe and the convertible variants of the M8 seems logical, as these models offer more versatility and broader appeal. The Gran Coupe starts at $142,175, offering added practicality for a slight price premium, while the convertible commands a $10,000 surcharge over the coupe.
