One of the biggest categories in light truck and SUV tires is the all-terrain. Many drivers look for a tire that can handle going off-road, while still having good manners on the pavement. The problem with many tires in the category is that they tend to be more pavement oriented as opposed to being truly off-road worthy. That is not the case with the new Yokohama GEOLANDAR A/T4. This new all-terrain tire truly lives up to the moniker by being a serious off-road worthy tire, while retaining excellent road manners. It is an all terrain that can handle going anywhere.

On- and Off-Road Prowess

One of the areas that sets the GEOLANDAR A/T4 apart from other all-terrain tires is the off-road capability. Just looking at it, it is easy to see the aggressive center tread blocks that give you better off-road traction in various terrain types. There is plenty of void space to help clear mud and stones, ejecting them from the tread and helping to give you better traction and longer tread life by preventing stone drilling. You will also notice the EDGETEC groves that give the tire more bite in deep snow, mud, loose dirt, and other off-road traction situations.

The tread pattern helps give the GEOLANDAR A/T4 a Three Peak Severe Snow Service rating, meaning that these tires will really come in handy if the white stuff starts piling up on you this winter. The winter grip is also aided by Yokohama’s Triple 3-D siping that changes shape as the tread wears to maintain hundreds of biting edges for excellent grip in snow, ice and wet conditions. This siping also helps with grip on rocks and hard-pack terrain on the trail, too. The tread pattern is enhanced with the use of zig-zag grove patterns that cut down on hydroplaning.

While the GEOLANDAR A/T4 has pretty aggressive off-road tread, it is also designed to be comfortable when it comes to on-road manners. The single-block shoulder tread helps reduce noise. It also helps with the stiffness of the tire, helping you corner and handle better, while keeping the road chatter to a minimum.

Tough Enough

One of the main things a true all-terrain tire needs to have is toughness. Yokohama went all out with the GEOLANDAR A/T4, giving it every bit of protective technology they have available.

Starting with its GEO-SHIELD Technology that builds in multiple sidewall plies, a full nylon cap and high turn-up carcass for added strength in rough conditions. In other words, Yokohama built up the sidewalls and carcass of the tire to be durable and rigid enough to give the tire extra protection from punctures, and stability for handling.

Yokohama added dual sidewall protectors for off-road durability to help reduce punctures from rocks and sticks, and especially when dealing with ruts. They have two different shoulder designs that you can choose from, each with great looks and added protection.

Yokohama also used its Enduro Compound for the construction of the GEOLANDAR A/T4 that is a proprietary triple polymer that helps prevent cutting and chipping. It also resists wear, giving the tire longer tread life and saving you money.

The Yokohama GEOLANDAR A/T4 tire is available in 44 sizes, in options for 15-, 16-, 17-, 18-, and 20-inch wheel diameters – an additional 19 LT sizes will be available before the end of the year. The GEOLANDAR A/T4 carries a limited treadware warranty of up to 65,000 miles on Euro-metric sizes and a 55,000 limited treadware warranty on LT-metric sizes. The size options and the outstanding features of the GEOLANDAR A/T4 makes them a great choice for your daily driver, overlanding rig, or off-road toy.
