These Are The Top 5 Best Selling Sedans In America

There’s no doubt that car-based crossovers have usurped the traditional four-door sedan as the vehicle of choice for the majority of American families over the last few decades.
Still, there are plenty of buyers who prefer a lower seating position and a real trunk over the taller SUV and its boxy cargo area. The best-selling sedan overall in 2024 was — drumroll please — the Toyota Camry. And it wasn’t even a close race.

Toyota Camry (309,876) |
Honda Civic (242,005) |
Toyota Corolla (232,908) |
Honda Accord (162,723) |
Nissan Sentra (152,659) |
Those five cars are the only sedans in the top 25 overall best sellers last year. With 142,100 sales, the next best-selling sedan in 2024 was the electric Tesla Model 3, which didn’t even come close to the 405,900 sales recorded by its crossover cousin, the Model Y. Of course, the top overall position on the sales chart went to the Ford F-Series truck for the 48th year in a row, followed by its competitor from Chevrolet, the Silverado.
While a few hundred thousand sales are nothing to sneeze at, Toyota (with the RAV4), Honda (CR-V) and Nissan (Rogue) all had crossovers outpace their sedan sales. The same can be said of Hyundai (Tucson) and Kia (Sportage), though the Korean brands didn’t make it into the top 25 overall with any of their sedans anyway.
We’re not terribly surprised to see that the Camry outsold the Accord — they finished in similar places in 2023, too — but the numbers are further apart than we’d have expected. And considering how impressive the latest Civic is, seeing its strong performance makes perfect sense. The Nissan Sentra carries a lower cost of entry than its competitors, and it too is a solid entry into the compact sedan space.

US automakers are giving this segments to the japanese, coreans or even chinese. A shame for those who like me, like american sedans. Cars like the Malibu or the CT5 are excellent but they barely get updates or publicity. Only Tesla or Lucid offer leading american sedans. Not everybody like SUV´s or crossovers or is willing to buy one no matter what and those buyers will switch to any brand that offers a sedan independntly of their origin.
