Toyota Teases Another SUV, Which Would Be Its Twelfth
Toyota is readying "Something New," but what could it be?
Toyota on Tuesday teased the latest addition to its lineup. To call it brief would be an understatement; there's one image, a nine-second clip giving away nothing more than the mystery vehicle's locking sound, and six words: "something new is on the horizon." Let the guessing games begin.
What we can see is a full-width taillight splitting up a fairly aggressive tumblehome, as this SUV noticeably tapers towards its top, though that could just be the camera lens. How do we know it's an SUV? Roof rails. No amount of brightening in Photoshop unlocks any other details, either.
If this is truly something new, it joins a crowded Toyota SUV lineup: the brand currently sells nine crossovers and SUVs in Canada and the US, with two more—the bZ Woodland and C-HR—incoming. This would give the brand a full dozen offerings.
On the other hand, if this is a replacement vehicle, our money is on Highlander. The non-Grand model has been with us since late 2019 with only a minor mid-cycle facelift since then. Highlander sales have evaporated since the Grand Highlander entered the scene: the former had a model-best 264,128 units sold in 2021 but managed just 56,208 in 2025. Meanwhile the Grand Highlander is the brand's second best-selling SUV, its 136,801 total in 2025 trailing only the RAV4.
Whatever the mystery vehicle is, there's currently no official word on when we'll see it, but Toyota isn't in the habit of waiting long in these situations. Stay tuned.
