There's A New Car Wearing The Most Researched Vehicle Crown

There’s a surprise at the top of this month’s leaderboard. The most-researched vehicle in America was not, in fact, the Ford F-150.

We’re happy to admit when we’re wrong. Just last month, when we reported that the Ford F-150 was the most-researched vehicle in America for the third month in a row, we wrote, “we'll go ahead and predict the trend will continue for the foreseeable future.”

Well, our prediction didn’t last long.

For the month of May, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 takes over the top spot from Ford’s F-150 competitor as the most-researched vehicle. Not that the F-150 fell very far or anything...

Top 10 Vehicles Researched In May 2025

1. Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2. Ford F-150

3. Toyota RAV4

4. Toyota Camry

5. Ram 1500

6. Toyota Tacoma

7. Jeep Wrangler

8. Hyundai Palisade

9. GMC Sierra 1500

10. Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Chevy’s Silverado 1500 sits atop this month’s list, and its heavy duty 2500-series sibling also earned a spot in the top 10. The Ford F-150 fell into second place, and as has been the case since we started tracking the popularity of cars and trucks online, all the full-size pickups from Ford, General Motors, and Ram make it into the top 10.

The F-150 wasn’t the only vehicle to move positions last month. The Toyota Tacoma rose to sixth from ninth, the Jeep Wrangler and GMC Sierra 1500 both moved up a spot, the Hyundai Palisade slid two positions into eighth and the Ford Maverick fell out of the top 10 (in fact, Ford’s smallest pickup fell all the way to 24th).

The Toyota RAV4 and Camry each retained their positions from last month. Toyota, which has three vehicles in the top 10, is the only Japanese automaker to land a vehicle into our monthly most-researched list, which is based on data provided exclusively to AutoGuide via AutoFinder.com — an automotive marketplace featuring over 3 million new and used vehicle listings, connecting consumers with top dealerships nationwide to easily find and secure the best deal on a car, truck or SUV.

You say you are "tracking the popularity of cars and trucks online". But most researched does not equal most popular. Have you considered that the Silverado 1500 and its Sierra 1500 twin might be on the list because people are researching information on the massive 6.2L engine problems/recall?

The data isn't based on simple search volume; it's generated from leads at the dealership level and signifies a high degree of purchase intent.
