Nissan Teases Next Armada With Patrol Roots
A new Nissan Armada will debut next week.
Nissan kicked off the week with a bit of nostalgia. The Japanese company on Monday shared the first image of the upcoming 2025 Nissan Armada, providing a glimpse of the big body-on-frame SUV's grille, along with a 1967 Patrol.
The Patrol is significant for a few reasons. Not only is the current Armada closely related to the Patrol sold in other markets around the globe, this particular vintage was the first generation sold in America. The original Patrol earned its reputation by climbing Japan's Mount Fuji, and while most Nissans arrived on these shores with a Datsun badge, the Patrol proudly wore its original brand when it began sales in the US in 1962.
That's not to say we expect the next Armada to be a gnarly, agricultural little off-roader when it debuts next week. No, the expectation is that Nissan's flagship SUV will borrow heavily from the redone 2025 Infiniti QX80. Three rows should be standard, and the 5.6-liter V8 will likely bow out in favor of the 3.5-liter turbo V6, improving horsepower, torque, and emissions. The teaser image showcases a big grille—no surprise there—with three contrasting slots above. The orange badge suggests a PRO-4X trim is joining the lineup to fight the likes of the Sequoia TRD Pro and Tahoe Z71.
We'll know more next week, so keep your eyes peeled.
