Jeep Confirms Wagoneer 4xe and Grand Wagoneer 4xe for 2025

It's part of a commitment to have an electrified version of every Jeep model.

Jeep didn't stop at unveiling the all-electric Wagoneer S (and wicked cool Trailhawk Concept) in New York City this week. As part of the event presentation, Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa confirmed that 4xe versions of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer would launch next year.

Exactly which form these two electrified models will take is unclear right now. We sincerely doubt Jeep would drop the Grand Cherokee's setup into the big body-on-frame three-row models; that wouldn't produce the power (or electric-only range) expected at this level. Perhaps we could see an updated system, pairing the Hurricane inline-six engine and a larger battery pack. While the Wagoneer S wears 4xe badges, we don't think Jeep is talking full-electric, either.

A third option could be a variation on the range-extender system found in the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. Filosa was drawn into a conversation about that system, and admitted that Jeep is working on a variation. In the pickup, a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 feeds a 130-kW generator, which can recharge a 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack, which in turn powers a pair of electric motors. At 663 horsepower it would be far and away the most powerful of the (Grand) Wagoneer family; in the Ram, the system offers up 145 miles (233 kilometers) of electric range and over four times that overall.

There are question marks hanging over this approach however, namely packaging and weight.

Whatever form the Wagoneer 4xe takes, we expect it to debut alongside a model facelift next year. Filosa confirmed at the event that as part of Wagoneer's re-integration into the wider Jeep brand, the update will include Jeep branding on the model. We should see the big twins at some point within the next 12 months.
