2024 Hyundai Santa Fe NHL Edition is the Most Canadian of Specials
Eh, Hyundai heard ya like hockey there, bud.
In a move that's more Canadian than Bieber eating poutine doused in double-double-flavoured gravy, Hyundai Canada on Thursday announced the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe National Hockey League (NHL) Edition. The icy white special edition is a Canuck-market exclusive, limited to just 500 units, and allows buyers to rep their fave squad.
What turns this SUV into such a clapper? Hyundai slathers the Santa Fe in "Creamy White" matte paint, a hue exclusive to the NHL Edition. A set of puck-coloured 20-inch alloys fill those boxy arches. Inside, the NHL Edition sports a Pecan brown interior, customized Luxwood door sills, along with WeatherTech floor and cargo liners. The latter can even feature the logo of one of the 32 current teams.
This raises all sorts of interesting questions. Assuming the Maple Leafs are a popular choice, would the Santa Fe come with the faint smell of disappointment in a team that last won a Cup before man landed on the moon? Is it proper etiquette to throw an octopus into the Red Wings model? Will the Senators edition even crack double digits?
There's a big change under the hood, too: while the NHL model is based off the top-shelf Ultimate Calligraphy trim, this one skips the 2.5-liter turbo-four and instead goes with the hybrid powertrain. This setup sees the 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder get an apple from an electrified motor. Combined outputs are 232 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of toque ... er, torque. All-wheel drive is standard up this way, eh.
The three-row SUV also boats a strong starting lineup of tech features, including a dual wireless charging pad, Bose 12-speaker audio system, and even a UV-C sterilization compartment.
As a recovered hockey fan, I think this is a great move for the official automotive partner of the NHL. Maybe it'll open doors up for future market-specific specials. Picture it: the Hyundai Hoser, a Venue with hand-crank windows and generous swathes of plaid covering the seats. You can have that one for free, Hyundai.
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe will begin touching down in Canadian dealerships this spring. Expect exact pricing on all models, including the NHL Edition, closer to launch.
