The Ferrari 488 Pista is already limited in its availability, but the newly introduced Pista Piloti specification is even more exclusive – and you can only buy it if you’re a Ferrari racing driver.

The 488 Pista Piloti was introduced today at Circuit de la Sarthe in France ahead of the 86th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was inspired by the No. 51 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE car of Alessandro Pier Guidi and James Calado, which carried the pair to the 2017 FIA WEC Driver’s Championship and helped Ferrari secure the Manufacturer’s Championship. It will only be available to Ferrari’s client racing drivers and will be offered in just four colors: Rosso Corsa, Blu Tour De France, Nero Daytona and Argento Nürburgring.

Setting the 488 Pista Piloti apart from other 488 Pista models is the Italian flag livery, which also features the WEC logo on the hood and a number on the doors that each client will be able to pick. The front S-Duct and the Dovetail rear spoiler have also been finished in natural carbon fiber, as have the side vent surrounds that serve as intakes for the 710 hp 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

Interior occupants will be surrounded by black Alcantara, which covers the seats, doors and headliner. The seats also feature a perforated material with the Italian flag on the backrest, which is joined by Italian flag-colored gear shift paddles and Italian flag-themed floormats. The number on the exterior is also shown on the vehicle’s steering wheel and all of the carbon fiber surfaces feature a matte finish.

Ferrari fans will be able to get a look at the 488 Pista Piloti on display at Le Mans this weekend. The race will go green on Saturday, June 16th at 9:30 a.m. ET.

so, how much do Ferrari racing drivers make? Have they been asking for a special model just for them to set them apart from other 488 drivers/owner? But no free lunch at Ferrari. These drivers now have to pay to play to be in the who's who of racing drivers. I wonder what the purchase contract says about how long the owner/client must keep the car before sending it off to auction in order to stay in "good standing" with Ferrari? Or, is it just a lease and Ferrari retains full ownership of the car when the "contract" is up?
