2017 Infiniti Q60 Coupe Gets Turbocharged

Infiniti is finally introducing a new sports coupe, the 2017 Q60, which made its global debut at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.
Lower and wider than its predecessors, the new Q60 measures 184.4 inches in length and sits on a 112.2-inch wheelbase. It wears a familiar Infiniti face up front, heavily influenced by the Q50. The side profile remains reminiscent of G Coupe, with the addition of standard 19-inch wheels or optional 20-inch wheels.
The biggest news is that it’s ditching big, naturally aspirated V6 engines in favor of two different turbocharged units available with three levels of power. Entry-level Q60s will come with 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Next up the performance ladder is a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 producing 300 hp and 295 lb-ft. Topping the range with be another 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine, but this one unleashes 400 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Regardless of which engine is chosen, the only transmission available is a seven-speed automatic. Despite no manual being offered, the seven-speed auto does incorporate adaptive shift control that uses a lateral acceleration sensor to detect changes in the road and alter the transmission for optimal performance.
The Q60 will be available with rear or all-wheel drive. The latter splits power 50:50 between front and rear wheels in its default setting, then sends 100% of the power to the rear wheels until slip is detected. At that point, power can be sent to any of the four wheels independently.
Depending on which engine and options are selected, a choice of three steering setups can be had in the Q60. Four-cylinder models will come with a hydraulic setup, while V6 models get an electronic rack system standard. Six-cylinder models can also be upgraded to Infiniti’s second-generation direct adaptive steering – better known as steering by wire.
A choice of two suspension setups will also be available including an all-new electronic suspension system called Dynamic Digital Suspension. It will come standard in the Q60 Sport, but regardless of which model is chosen, handling should improve over its predecessors thanks to a lower center of gravity.
Inside, the Q60 is luxuriously appointed and features a pair of dual center screens. Available for the first time ever will be an all-new 13-speaker, Bose Performance Series sound system.
The Q60 is expected to go on sale later this summer.
