First Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Sells for $1,050,000 at Barrett-Jackson Auction
Keeping with its storied tradition of auctioning off notable vehicles in its history, GM has sold off the first-ever 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The Corvette Stingray managed to fetch $1,050,000 at the auction and the proceeds will go to benefit the College for Creative Studies. Even though official pricing for the Corvette Stingray has yet to be announced by the American automaker, that didn’t stop bidders from fighting over one of America’s most iconic sports cars.

The selling price was surprising considering the first SRT Viper that was also sold at a Barrett-Jackson auction, went for a mere $300,000. Perhaps it goes to show how much more iconic the Corvette is compared to the Viper. As expected, NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick took home the first-ever ‘Vette; he also owns the largest Chevy dealership in America.
