Toyota RAV-X Concept Shows What A Real Off-Road Crossover Looks Like
As it sits, the Toyota RAV4 TRD Pro does not stack up to Toyota’s other, much more capable TRD Pro offerings, like the Tacoma, 4Runner, and Tundra. It doesn’t have four-wheel drive or a massive lift, or an array of locking differentials. Toyota’s RAV-X Concept, shown at SEMA right now, rights some of these wrongs.
It features forged aluminum front control arms and rear upper supports, long-travel suspension with a 2-inch lift, and a wider track. There are also custom internal bypass shocks. 17-inch forged wheels handle traction when paired with the upgraded all-terrain tires, and a new front bumper with skid plates front and rear helps enhance protection, clearance, and cooling. Meanwhile, Toyota also added rocker panels to help deflect unwanted contact with Terra Firma. While this is just a concept, the RAV-X shows that if Toyota wants to commit, it could put out a seriously competent off-road crossover that’d give our current favorite, the Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness, an excuse to run for the hills.
