Stellantis Chairman John Elkann revealed a series of significant U.S. investment plans during a meeting with President Donald Trump.

Key elements of Stellantis' reworked investment strategy include producing a midsize pickup truck at the previously idled Belvidere Assembly Plant in Illinois plant 2027, a move expected to create 1,500 jobs. The Belvidere plant has been without a product since the discontinuation of the Jeep Cherokee.

Earlier this week Ram's CEO, Tim Kuniskis, came right out and said the brand needed a midsize truck to remain competitive. Reuters reports the upcoming midsize truck will fall into the brand's multi-energy strategy offering gasoline, PHEV, and EV powertrain options.

The automaker also confirmed plans for a new Dodge Durango which will be manufactured at the firm's Detroit Assembly Complex—a project previously under consideration for production in Mexico.

Additional investments will bolster Stellantis' Jeep complex in Toledo, Ohio, focusing on Wrangler and Gladiator production; along with new four-cylinder engine production in Kokomo, Indiana.

United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain cheered the announcement, calling it a victory for organized labor. “This is a testament to the power of workers standing together and holding corporations accountable,” Fain stated. T

The UAW had previously criticized Stellantis over job cuts and uncertain production plans, filing grievances and organizing rallies to demand action. Some of the investments were thought to be in question under the leadership of former Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.

Elkann, a member of Italy's Agnelli family who founded Fiat, is managing the company following the abrupt departure of Tavares in December. Tavares left amidst disagreements with the board and declining profits.

The new investments are a clear commitment to the U.S. market after the company had bled both market share and sales volume under the previous leadership.
