Mercedes Expands AMG GT 4-Door Lineup With New GT 53

Mercedes-AMG has expanded its flagship electric GT 4-Door lineup with the introduction of the 2027 AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe.


Serving as the entry point below the previously released GT 55, the high-performance four-door utilizes an all-electric powertrain paired with an 800-volt battery architecture derived from the automaker's Formula 1 program.

The AMG GT 53 uses two permanently excited synchronous electric motors (PSM) that generate a combined peak output of 536 horsepower (362 hp continuous) and 590 lb-ft of torque. Power is managed through a fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system. The rear axle motor serves as the primary drive unit, while the front motor acts as a boost unit, engaging via a Disconnect Unit (DCU) when extra traction or acceleration is required and disengaging under low loads to maximize efficiency.


An integrated two-speed transmission manages rear-wheel power delivery. First gear uses a short 11:1 ratio for initial off-the-line acceleration, while second gear uses a 5:1 ratio designed for sustained high-speed driving and highway efficiency. Mercedes-AMG quotes a zero-to-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds.

800-Volt Battery Architecture and 600-kW Charging

Under the floorboards sits a 106-kWh usable capacity high-voltage battery pack containing 2,660 cylindrical NCMA (Nickel/Cobalt/Manganese/Aluminum) cells arranged across 18 modules. To maintain performance under heavy load, each cell is directly surrounded by a non-conductive cooling oil managed by a Central Coolant Hub (CCH) that coordinates thermal management across the battery, electric drive units, and power electronics.


The 800-volt architecture supports DC fast charging up to 600 kW, allowing the vehicle to add up to 534 kilometers (approximately 331 miles) of range in 10 minutes at compatible high-power stations. On the European WLTP testing cycle, the GT 53 achieves a maximum estimated range of over 800 kilometers (497 miles).

Acoustics and Cabin Technology

To maintain a traditional performance atmosphere inside the cabin, AMG engineers recorded the real-world acoustic profile of the brand's 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine using 16 microphone positions across static and dynamic driving conditions. Digitized and played back through the AMGFORCE Sport+ drive program, the system provides simulated gear shifts and load-dependent engine audio synchronized with manual shift paddle inputs on the steering wheel.


The driver-centric cockpit features a 14-inch central MBUX touchscreen angled toward the driver, integrated under a single glass panel with the digital instrument cluster. Drivers can adjust accelerator pedal mapping independently of drive modes using a "Response Control" dial on the center console, while the AMG SET-UP menu allows manual deployment of the active rear aerodynamic elements even at lower speeds.

Chassis and Active Aerodynamics

The GT 53 rides on an AMG RIDE CONTROL air suspension featuring adaptive two-valve dampers that independently adjust rebound and compression forces across Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ modes. Torque vectoring continuously manages power distribution between the rear wheels to stabilize the chassis through corners.


Active aerodynamic components include the standard AEROKINETICS rear spoiler, which adjusts its angle automatically based on vehicle speed and steering inputs, extending to its steepest angle during high-speed driving for maximum rear downforce. An optional AEROKINETICS rear diffuser extends the lower rear contour at highway speeds to decrease drag and extend driving range.


The 2027 Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupe is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in early 2027, with final North American pricing and EPA fuel economy figures expected closer to launch.
