The Kia Carnival Hybrid is finally here, filling a major gap in Kia’s lineup by offering a more fuel-efficient alternative to its V6-powered minivan. With a turbocharged hybrid powertrain, updated tech, and its signature SUV-inspired styling, the refreshed Carnival aims to be a more compelling option for families who want space and versatility without the high fuel costs.

The 2025 Carnival Hybrid pairs a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined 242 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission instead of the CVTs commonly found in hybrid rivals. This setup should provide a more natural driving feel while improving efficiency over the standard 3.5-liter V6, which maxes out at 26 mpg on the highway. While official fuel economy figures aren’t available yet, expect the hybrid to offer mid-30s mpg in combined driving, putting it in line with the Toyota Sienna.

Beyond the new drivetrain, the 2025 Carnival gets a light refresh with minor styling tweaks, updated lighting elements, and a modernized interior. The cabin now features an available dual 12.3-inch curved display, the latest Kia infotainment software, and more advanced driver-assist systems. The eight-passenger layout and sliding rear doors remain, keeping the Carnival as versatile as ever for family use.

The Carnival Hybrid now competes more directly with the Toyota Sienna, which has been hybrid-only since 2021. While Kia’s approach leans heavily on SUV styling to attract buyers who might otherwise avoid a minivan, the addition of a hybrid option gives the Carnival stronger credentials as a fuel-efficient family hauler.
