Hyundai is recalling nearly 300,000 vehicles in the United States after discovering a problem that could compromise seat belt performance in the event of a crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 294,000 vehicles are affected by a potential issue involving seat belt anchor points that could loosen or detach over time.

The recall spans several of Hyundai's newer and higher-end vehicles, including:

  • 2024-2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid
  • 2023-2025 Ioniq 6
  • 2023-2026 Genesis G90

Hyundai says the front seat belts in the subject vehicles may not be sufficiently attached to the seat frame due to a damaged snap-on anchor. It was discovered that in some vehicles, the front seatbelt anchor clip was detaching from the seat in rear-end collisions—which significantly increases the risk of injury in an accident. Hyundai is aware of six reports in the U.S related to the problem.

Hyundai dealers will inspect the seat belt anchor assemblies on affected vehicles. If necessary, technicians will reinforce or replace the components at no cost to owners.

Owners of the affected models are encouraged to check with Hyundai or the NHTSA database to confirm whether their vehicle is included and arrange repairs promptly.
