We Know When Ford Will Announce The Mustang GTD's Nürburgring Time
The Ford Mustang GTD has been stalking the Nürburgring Nordschleife for months, with engineers and drivers dialing in the car for the world’s most demanding racetrack.
Ford set an astronomical target when the car debuted back in August 2023: crack the seven-minute barrier at the 12.9-mile circuit, something no American car has ever done before.
Now, after all that testing, the automaker is ready to share the results—on December 10.
If Ford makes the mark the GTD would inherit the title of fastest American production car to ever lap the Green Hell. For context, the benchmark is currently held by the Dodge Viper ACR, which posted a 7:01.30 in its heyday.
With 815 horsepower, a GT3-derived chassis, a top speed of 202 mph, and an aero kit that looks like it came straight from Le Mans, the GTD has a legitimate shot at joining the ultra-exclusive sub-7-minute club, where the likes of Lamborghini, Porsche, and Mercedes-AMG live.
2025 Ford Mustang GTD: All The Details
The overall production car record is definitely out of reach— a 6:29.09 set by the Mercedes-AMG One—Ford could still potentially capture the crown of fastest front-engined production car. That title currently belongs to the AMG GT Black Series, which laid down a 6:43.61 lap in 2020. It was one of the cars Ford benchmarked during GTD development, alongside Porsche’s 911 GT2 RS.
Muscle cars sure have come a long way.

Great car. Ford may even hold the record...briefly, until the results for the Corvette C8 ZR1 come out. :)
