The Ford Mustang GTD Only Makes 815 Horsepower
The Corvette ZR1 makes more than 1,000 hp, how come Ford couldn't get the Mustang GTD closer to that number?
To be fair, I haven't asked Ford, but I'm sure they would've if they could've, which is a huge hat tip to GM's wizards in Warren. Anyways, today Ford officially revealed the Mustang GTD makes 815 horsepower, making it the most powerful road-legal Mustang ever produced by Ford.
Equipped with a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine, the GTD generates 664 lb-ft of torque and revs up to 7,650 rpm. The engine comes with a dry sump system, a revised intake, and a titanium exhaust, enhancing its performance and durability on the track.
Ford is positioning the GTD as a direct competitor to high-performance supercars, particularly targeting the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Mustang GTD Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall emphasized that the GTD delivers more horsepower per liter than its Porsche rival, highlighting Ford's ambition to place this Mustang in the supercar category.
One of Ford's bold goals for the GTD is to achieve a sub-seven-minute lap time at the Nurburgring Nordschleife—known as "Germany's Green Hell." This is a direct challenge to Porsche's GT3 RS, which currently holds a lap time of 6:49.328.
To accomplish this, the GTD is fitted with advanced engineering features like unequal-length double-wishbone suspension, semi-active dampers, and carbon-ceramic disc brakes. The car also has active aerodynamics, including a Drag Reduction System that can adjust the rear wing angle and activate under-floor flaps to help it reach a top speed of 202 mph.
With a price tag of $325,000, the Mustang GTD is set to go head-to-head with the best track-focused supercars in the world. Demand is already high, with the first two years of production fully reserved, indicating that this Mustang has captured the attention of enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Horsepower alone does not determine the performance ability of a car. The engine in the GTD can easily handle 1,000hp and has been sold with that much horsepower in the past. I'm excited to hear how LIGHT the car is going to be.
And the 992 GT3 RS "only" makes 518 horsepower. Complaining about the Mustang GTD's horsepower output just a stupid as complaining that LMDh cars "only" have 670HP.
