How Much Money Is Too Much Money For A Ford Mustang?

Ford has officially priced the 2025 Mustang GTD, and it’s above the automaker’s early estimates.

Key Points

  • The 2025 Mustang GTD will start at $327,960, after fees, making it the most expensive production Mustang ever built.
  • Powered by a supercharged 5.2L V8 with 815 hp, it features GT3-derived hardware including semi-active rear suspension, a carbon fiber driveshaft, and dual-clutch rear transaxle.
  • Optional extras like $10,000 exposed carbon roof and special editions could push pricing close to $400,000 per car.

According to window sticker information posted online by an owner who just took delivery, the GTD carries a starting base price of $318,760 before fees. When the automaker first announced the super Mustang, a $300,000 starting price was the target. Destination adds $5,500, and the gas guzzler tax requires a further $3,700.

The Monroney for the particular car posted online doesn’t include many options—save for the red-painted brake calipers, which added $1,500, and a $10,000 exposed carbon-fiber roof. We still don't know how much Ford wants for some of the more exotic options, like the aero package and drag-reduction system.

At the heart of the whole experience is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, which pipes 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle. Unlike a traditional Mustang, the GTD uses a rear-mounted gearbox, carbon-fiber driveshaft, and a rear pushrod suspension derived from the Mustang GT3 race car.

The engineering has made the Mustang GTD the fastest American production car to lap the Nürburgring, setting a time earlier this year of 6 minutes and 52.072 seconds.

Ford is also preparing a limited-run “ Spirit of America” variant of the GTD, though pricing for that version hasn’t been disclosed. Depending on how deep the customization menu goes, is a $400,000 Mustang a very real possibility?
